Kerri Walsh

Today, I am going to talk about Kerri Walsh, who in my opinion, is one of the best volleyball players. She is a professional beach volleyball player and has won two Olympic gold medals, along with her partner, Misty May.

(Kerri Walsh is on the right, Misty May on the left.)

Kerri Walsh grew up in southern California and played indoor volleyball through college, which she did very well in because she has the advantage of being  6 feet 3 inches. She and Misty May have one of the longest winning streaks with 89 matches won in a row on the AVP Crocs Tour. In the 2004 Olympics in Greece, they won the Women’s Gold medal for beach volleyball, and they won again in 2008 in Beijing. The two are considered to be one of the best beach volleyball duos in history.

Welcome

October 16, 2009

Welcome to the All About Volleyball blog! In this blog, I will talk about volleyball players, games, review equipment, and much more.  I will talk about getting started and what you will need, how to play, tips on playing, and many extra facts.

Some facts about me and volleyball: I have been playing volleyball for five years now and am now playing in high school. I play indoor volleyball and love it. It is a great sport that is good exercise and requires fast reflexes. Don’t join if you want  to play a sport that doesn’t require running. Many people think that volleyball doesn’t require running or using muscles, but they are wrong. When training or conditioning, we run many miles and do many push ups but it all pays off when you are in great shape!

Some tips on getting started/ What you will need for playing:

-knee pads

- a net

- a volleyball

 -athletic shoes

-spandex (optional)

-other players

-practice serving

-practice setting

-practice passing

-Remember to stretch before playing, you don’t want to pull a muscle!

A recent volleyball event was the AVP Crocs Tour Tournament, which I saw in San Francisco in September. I have gone the past few years, and definitely recommend going to see professionals play. Misty May and Kerri Walsh, two-time Olympic Beach Volleyball gold medalists and Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, the men’s gold medalists were there. Even though this is beach volleyball tournament, I still recommend watching, maybe even get your whole team go.

If you want me to write about a certain topic, feel free to comment and I will try to answer your questions.

I hope this will help you get started. Please visit this often, because you never know when something new will be posted (Most likely Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays)

Thanks :-)
